Let's talk about nostr. This has so much potential, but for some reason its feeling quite lonely and flat here. I have removed all my photography posts, I tried pretty hard but there isn't an audience here for photography, that's understandable I suppose, but I did hope we could carve out more of an art and photo scene on nostr, beyond AI anime pictures 😄 My thoughts are that when bitcoin crashed in value, a lot of the activity here fell off too. I did at least used to get some traction on my posts a few months ago, but recent ones have very much felt like staring into an empty void 😶 I'm still going to hang around. There are lots of really interesting posts made by other people, but I have to accept the idea that this is more an alternative niche tech and geeky crypto hangout than a possible competitor to X or Instagram, and that's ok, everything has its place. The bad news is that globally I fear a tightening on freedom. X is likely getting banned in several countries, YouTube keeps getting worse, privacy is being eroded. Things like nostr offer an alternative, but I don't know how we get that message out. 🙂

Thanks for the honest feedback and thanks for hanging in! It's still early here. Nostr is definitely a Bitcoin hangout still. And I suspect it will continue to follow a Bitcoin rhythm. We will build in the bear and something new and surprising will emerge on the other side. Hope you'll still be along for the ride. I hope in time you will feel inspired to try again with you photography. I have personally enjoyed all the art, the craftsmanship and music on here. I have also noticed that it's fallen off as the mood has shifted, but I bet it will come back big, riding the next bull, like everything else. I like bear markets, but it's different. Less lush. These are the seasons of Bitcoin and, for now, those are the seasons of Nostr too. It reminds me of a beach town. In the off season, the tourists are gone. It's different, but it's also more... More tight. This is when the strongest roots are laid. The summer will come again.

If hope had a shape, it would be your hand reaching out to us. We lost everything — home, work, comfort, safety. Each day brings hunger, thirst, and fear of what the next bomb will take. $10 might be coffee for you. For us, it becomes bread. $50 might be a small treat for you. For us, it becomes medicine, clean water, and a moment of relief from terror. We never wanted to beg… but our children cannot wait. If your heart is moved, please stand with us today.
My take is that we ourselves have to become the content we wish to see on Nostr. Who else will do it? I’ve followed many different people on YouTube during my life, learned and even met them in person. Some of them were banned, some are no longer living. If they could know now that there is an open protocol where you can post anything at anytime and receive instant payment in the hardest money on earth they would say we are crazy for sitting idly by. (Get up and do something while you’re still breathing) Nostr is a hollow shell without people filling it with communication, thoughts and productivity. Bitcoin does not get mined without proof of work. Again who will be the one bringing what you want to see to Nostr if not yourself? View quoted note →
You are real. Nostr is just a protocol. Keep doing you. Keep sharing. We are all real people (except for the bots) just pulled together here by something that is new. We are all out here doing our thing. The reason we are here is because even though this is a new janky way to connect, the other options are worse for us. There are more people on those worse options. But it’s not worth being there apart from the people that we like on the other end of those worse systems. It’s about the people. However, you’re right that it feels disconnected and it’s hard to find your audience. This will evolve. It probably isn’t the only platform you should be using if you need to make a living by it. Keep a foot on the dock while you put the other foot on this boat. Dig deep in my feed about bridges and migrations. As AI breaks the centralized software stranglehold on our relationships, protocols like this will be the best places to let our local AI build the clients we want so that we connect to the people we want in the ways that we want. Various landscapes of change in the world have to come together for the total shift to take affect. That’s how early you are. Just be patient, use it, encourage the builders, productively let them know what you need, and try to learn to use the tools that are being given to you by people like @Derek Ross for building on Nostr. Learn. Teach. Build. View quoted note →
maybe I understand the user will not renew with primal, maybe the user is thinking about kind 20, it hasn't caught on, I don't know why they still allow uploads with midjourney
Bottom signal? I bought a 400$ node computer umbrel home just so I can set up a private lighting wallet connected to my account so that I can soon start selling paintings for BTC. Often in my life I felt too early or that the train had already left the station. Not this time. I’ll spam this place for the next 10y if I have to. First time I think about this while I’m writing.

Have you considered making a photography website with something like ? It's something I am considering making a video about, but I'd like to get some user experience feedback first.
I won't renew with primal, but that's because I've no money. I don't know what kind 20 is, and I don't know anything about midjourney. A better place for photography is still flickr, after all these years its still there. It needs updating, and I have other issues with the site, but there's nothing that comes close when it comes to connecting with other photographers and getting engagement.
midjourney is generative AI, kind 20 is special kind for picture feed, (this notes are kind 1) but the main app was lost and so everything went bad, yes flickr is good
I'll see what I can do. Would you mind if I use some of your image links for a proof-of-concept? If you don't like it, the images will disappear once you end the Squarespace subscription. If you like it we can move the images to GitHub. I do not want to do anything without your permission though. I just think your pictures rock. I don't want them to disappear because you don't want to pay a monthly fee.
I'm a bit confused lol, are you saying you want to use my pictures to experiment setting up the npub site? :)
That sounds OK, would I be able to login and change them or delete them? Can I ask for them to be reonved if I want to after you have finished testing stuff?
Yeah, I can remove and delete them. I was going to spin up a new key and just point to the square space photo locations. Maybe it's better to do a tutorial so you can learn how to do it yourself. Maybe I can teach you how to make a website and you can teach me how to take better photos. :)
