It’s using it as a timestamp server which is one of the best and most intuitive uses for it aside from transactions. Thats all it does for bitcoin transactions, is act as an irreversible timestamp server.
This does not bloat the chain with data at all, it’s stamped into a single hash which can verify an entire tree with tens of thousands of documents. It’s the only use of the data input that *isn’t* a bloated mess.

Did they use opentimestamps? What stops OTS storing huge amounts of data? For bitcoin it uses satoshis. How does the data stay around here?
