Yeah, I do that, as well. But I do it locally, as I can't get the read-events to be persistent. Nobody can, apparently, as I've never seen it work very well.
The problem is that, because everyone follows the same mega-npubs, most people's feeds are basically ded, without the reposts. The reposts simulate activity because you can keep scrolling. You're just scrolling past the same thing, over and over, but the scrolling movement itself satisfies the desire to feel like you're interacting.
Follow concentration means that almost every npub's posts have zero views (which is why they almost always turn around and leave, as that's a permanent state) and 10 npubs have 20k views. And then there's the curmudgeons, who look at each others' stuff and have 10 views per post.
