NBN fibre 2000/200 Mbps testing. This 2Gbps speed tier, along with speed upgrades to existing tiers, will be generally available in September. A new NBN NTD needs to be installed which has 2.5Gbps ports in order to get the 2Gbps speed. A lot of users will also likely need to upgrade their routers if they want to get these speeds. image

I believe ABB’s Pro plans are still the old speed tiers that NBN supports with higher upload speeds but most ISPs don’t sell. The 2Gbps is a new residential speed that is only available to ISPs for limited testing so far. And yeah only available on FTTP and HFC. There are options for a free upgrade to FTTP in some areas but I’m not sure what the conditions are for that.
GPON so is asymmetric, but they also artificially limit it to differentiate from their business plans which will have a 500Mbps upload..
Oh wtf, they must have accidentally let it leak on their site and now removed it. I had seen a 2Gbps plan for home and called them and started discussing both home/business tiers just last week. Excited for when it's fully launched. Enjoy it 🤓
I’m using a MikroTik RB5009 which isn’t a normal residential grade router. I know ISPs are testing different router options for these new speeds but I’m not sure which models.
Yeah. Most ISPs would be getting ready to update their plans for the new speeds so could have accidentally put it in their website!
Hmm that looks pretty good for the price. Would you recommend it? I haven’t used Mikrotik for years but I’d be comfortable with it.
I’m hoping I might get to test the 2000/500 as well but not sure yet. The 200Mbps upload is still a big improvement from the 50Mbps that I had before.
Yeah if you are comfortable with Mikrotik then I think it is great. It has the right combination of ports for me - 10G SFP+ for the link to my switch, 2.5G for the NBN service and 7 1G ports. It seems to handle this 2Gbps NBN service without any issues.
