Do you subscribe to the notion of humans as "social animals"? These events, and politics and religion as a whole really, all rely on that idea of outright compulsive drive to gather and unite. I think conversation, exchange of ideas, and shared time make wonderful experiences, just only supported by genuine individual connection.
