I always find that the outside of the dough dries out a little whenever I use a towel to cover the bowl while it rests for the initial rise. So I end up using a solid top to cover it. Does that happen for you during that phase? Is your towel damp? Once I break it into balls it goes in the dough box, so that's not an issue.
