I use Uber a lot when I am out because I love avoiding the hassle of not bringing a car. I noticed about 2 months ago that the cost of rides were insanely expensive, but I chalked it up to being a high demand time (8-9pm on Friday or Saturday night). So I decided to have my friend, who infrequently uses Uber (1-2 times a month), check their prices when I was checking mine. To my astonishment the prices quoted to them were about 40% lower than mine. I was being quoted $45 for a ride that they were being quoted $27 for. Did a little Reddit research and I guess they’ve been doing this for years. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/comments/ufeaud/ysk_uber_will_silently_raise_prices_for_you_over/ I have switch primarily to Lyft and haven’t seen the same trend yet. But I hate how “Big Tech” tried to squeeze every dollar out. I will avidly avoid Uber and use the advice in the Reddit thread to manipulate the algorithm. What a scam.
