I appreciate the debate. And I hope someone creates a silent payment implementation that can actually work and don't just defer privacy to a trusted monitor provider.

I have my silent payment address in my kind 0 rn. Jumble supports it as well. If anyone wants to try if it works 🥲

The sender can wrap the txid in a NIP-17 encrypted event to notify the recipient, so they know exactly which transaction to verify locally with their scan key. Payments sent without a notification still need to be discovered through scanning, of course.
