Am I the only one that feels retarded for donating to the defense fund of two rich guys that just plead out anyway?

Hey we live and we learn everyday
Keep your sats those people are rich.
Choosing 5 years against 25 years in jail. Let him cast the first stone who is without sin. Now it’s your turn to carry the torch for freedom. Keonne and Bill did more than their part. Samourai and Whirlpool code exist forever now.
Explain how they did their part for my freedom? Their plea deal will result in precedence that endangers even pleb LN node runners.
I can understand them tapping out under the pressure they were under .
But let’s not lionize them.
The Samourai Wallet case actually does not set case law precedent as they reached a plea deal.
As for their part for your freedom, they literally put their lives on the line and were facing 25-year sentences for the code they built... for you or anyone else to use to gain anonymity on a public block chain.
Thanks for clarifying. The unfortunate truth is that the appellate courts reviewing this will have more ammunition to set precedence thanks to the plea deal.
In addition, the seizure of their servers and scrutiny they’ve invited hardly protects users’ anonymity.
Not that I agree with prosecuting a tweet but it was foolish self aggrandizement. The world is a jungle and they shouted the equivalent of “hey tiger look at me and how great I am come eat me.”
Hard to lionize these guys in full view of what has transpired. They’ll have a painful few years then go back to a life of luxury.
That isn't "the unfortunate truth", the Samourai Wallet devs have agreed not to appeal so long as judge Cote sentences 5 years or less. Therefore, the plea agreement would not be brought before an appellate court nor would appellate courts take into consideration the Samourai Wallet plea agreement when forming opinions on other cases.
As for their servers, best practices would stipulate that they be encrypted. I'll admit I don't know with certainty but I am confident, based on Samourai Wallet following other best practices like purging xpubs at periodic time intervals and the fact that the government failed to access several of the confiscated devices, that there was no xpub exposure. Especially considering the large majority of users ran their own nodes, or used Sparrow Wallet, or used Keeper (or whatever that iOS app was called that implemented Whirlpool). IMO I do believe the xpub exposure risk was very minimal all things considered and I also believe that none of the xpubs in that risk pool were exposed.
