They will collect the CO2 footprint directly into the digitalID. We should say NO to both
I would also just be happy to see a new line of actual cars instead of giant computers on wheels.
Little-to-no electronics, key to start, simple dash. No bells and whistles. Nothing that can be hacked. No remote features, just a car.
💯
Yeah, but the risks and vulnerabilities go way beyond that. As cars get more and more computerized you get literal surveillance via cameras in the cars, biometrics, remote takeover/kill switch, geofencing, forced downtime during climate lockdowns, the list goes on.
Saying NO is good, but it will take a lot more resistance than that to reverse this trajectory.
If Cuba can keep their old cars running, so can we. 🚀
We need open source phones!
Most old cars are Vitor 🙂 and some of them will outlive us if we take care of them regularly.
Fairphone
PinePhone
But I don't want an old car. Old cars suck. I want a new car with all the self-driving stuff and without the tracking. :)
Then take an open source car and merge your changes.
I can see Chinese EV manufacturers band together and develop a standardized interface that a 3rd party OS can be installed on e.g. to take on Tesla.
Tesla is like the Apple of the EV world. Chinese EVs are like Androids.
I was just thinking this yesterday
I've heard of people pulling the cell modem off their car. You could probably replace it with the calyx os WiFi modem/router and then try and boot a Linux distro on the cars computer, utilizing the link I posted in these comments to access software necessary for your cars operation
Another concern with modern cars is all the emf being emitted. Those Teslas and the like are most assuredly frying peoples reproductive glands. Definitely get some grounding mats I'm the car as well
💯
is a step in the right direction.

comma.ai — make driving chill
An AI upgrade for your car
Open standards for self-driving would also vastly accelerate it's progress compared to the walled gardens we have now.
But maybe that's for the best.
may I suggest a carb and a stickshift? No privacy issues there. I dont want the car to drive. i want an offline bipedal bot that can drive stick in my 78 dodge and knows how to work a choke.
Absolutely.
This would be an interesting thought exercise. Imagine @System76 :popos: :ubuntu: producing the hardware. Then, giving the option for POP OS or Ubuntu OS to be installed in the car. Included would be USB touch stick for 2FA before starting the engine.
This will be a tough one. Especially with self-drive mode. I'm not sure if regulators would allow #openSource self driving cars.
Ok maybe in Texas but definitely not elsewhere.
And I'm pretty sure Europe will never see such cars. We already have problems getting cheap Chinese EVs.
