#asknostr #IsThisAScam? Home mining pros, I need ya ✌️ There seems to be some general confusion (see thread for example) around Avalon and Canaan mining rigs. The linked miner (Avalon Nano 3) below is from avalonasic.org and claims to offer very high (4-70) TH/s for a home miner. Others have used Canaan.io to buy the “Avalon nano 3” model with a max of 4 TH/s. Pretty sure I saw that the avalonasic website is linked somewhere to Canaan’s official Nasdaq:CAN listing so I don’t think it’s an impersonator/scam. Seems to perhaps be the Japanese branch of Avalon. But I ultimately can’t tell and am starting to wonder “have I been pwnd” 😬 That they only take bank transfer and crypto is a bit of a red flag. We bitcoiners are bred to be a bit paranoid, but I also feel I should have done a bit more verify before deciding to trust. Cc Yo @Tatum Turn Up any industry insight you might be able to offer on the brand(s)? 🙏 #mining View quoted note →

Always good to ask questions. Better to be safe than sorry. In this case, it’s a good thing you did. This is a scam for sure. Canaan is the company, and Avalon is their miner that they make. Think of Bitmain manufacturing Antminers, MicroBT manufacturing Whatsminers, etc. The Avalon Nano 3 IS a real miner, but it’s Canaan’s version of a lottery miner, absolutely will not give you 70 TH/s lol. I think it’s actually around 4? Maybe? And always always always look at the URL. Canaan’s official website is canaan.io. There are many many fake sites for mining, impersonating Canaan, MicroBT, Bitmain, etc. So always approach that with healthy skepticism. All good questions! Don’t feel bad! Hell, I’ve damn near fallen for a few scams like this myself. Keep your eyes peeled!
🤦‍♂️🫠 Welp. As much as I hate that it’s true, I very much appreciate you confirming my doubts here, friend. Takeaways: 1) I’ll consider myself very lucky that it wasn’t a significantly larger purchase (still, those were sats imma be sad to never see again) 2) My Bitcoin journey began with high-quality information and conversations from nearly the beginning, thereby saving me from the all-too-common story of burning my hand on the shitcoin stove, so perhaps this was my version of a pricey lesson learned 3) my next thought of “ask for a refund by pretending I’ll by something more expensive” probably falls under “bargaining” in terms of stages-of-grief, and it’s probably not gonna work to out-scam a scammer 🙄 Sucks. Could be a lot worse, but still sucks :/
Unfortunately some lessons do cost a bit of money, deeply sorry about that. But like you said, you’ve been Bitcoin only from the start, you probably made off a lottttt better than someone like me who fell down that shitcoin rabbit hole lol. Don’t feel too bad though! These are getting really crafty and as I said earlier, I’ve gotten close to falling for some. Can never be too careful!
Thanks brother, I appreciate that. Yeah I was extremely lucky to have someone close to me who suggested I don’t fuck with other coins. And in my own early self-study, I found the Bitcoin maxi Twitter community pretty early on, and, well, you know how convincing it can be lol Sucks about the sats, but honestly I’m more disappointed that I won’t be getting a 20TH/s foot warmer for under my desk 😭 I was looking forward to that! But now in hindsight… a bit too good to be true. Definitely going to buy the real thing, though. Next paycheck though lol
