Zapping a few sats on NOSTR or donating to your favorite podcast on Fountain are very cool technical achievements. But those few cents are not enough for the creator to make a living. Maybe it works for the biggest voices on NOSTR, but the rest of us are still dependent on ads and sponsors.

Can we normalize larger zaps? I have my Fountain set at 50 zpm but if folks determined what the fair rate was, I would gladly adjust upward.
I was thinking the other day that I would be willing to let Stitch Fix show me ads in return for 1000 sats per day.
Let’s make it easy and leave any taxes out of the calculation and take a monthly income of EUR 3.000 as our baseline.

This means: - 10.000 donations of 30 cents. - 1.000 donations of EUR 3 - 100 donations of EUR 30 I think the out of 100 listeners, only 1 to 5 donate (my experience in my own podcast). Let’s take the upper bound of 5 for this example. So for every listener that donates, you have 19 that don’t donate. This means to get to 1.000 donations of EUR 3, you need a total crowd of 20.000 listeners.

There are not that many bitcoin podcasts that get to that level. And the point is, once you get to that level you can easily get ads for EUR 1.000 per episode (CPM of EUR 50). If you make 4 episodes a week this means you get EUR 4.000 a month.
It seems like you did this math before 🀣, I am just starting with fountain and is a great way to start directly valuating content. For me it is part the accustomerzation with free content, the unknowns with zapping and all in all unconsciousness of the possibilities that keep me where I am. Anyway, great podcast you're making!
Normalcy at these levels will translate to significantly more value in 12-24mo? Dunno... but its interesting to think if you had big X like follwing what that woiod translate to if they all zapped 100sats...
I've been thinking about this and I believe it's currently only possible for the very best producers, since there is only a small percentage of people willing to part with sats when they can get it for free without doing anything (altruists?) For example, @BTC Sessions is a good example but I'm not sure even he survives on v4v tips alone. I do hope I'm wrong as I'd love to live in a world where most people are generous. I think as bitcoin increases in value v4v will become feasible for more people.
Same goes for getting sponsors and ads, that’s not my point. The point is that when you get critical mass, ads and sponsors are way more profitable than donations.
