many purposes. sending an encrypted message to someone else or receiving one from someone else, or signing a non-encrypted message. for example you can sign a non-encrypted text with your email, nostr public key, whatever [username] on [whatever service] that way through the history of usage it's easy to be connected in a sea of anonymity.
