All a relay sees is a random group ID and encrypted cyphertext.
The relay does not know how old is this group, how many people are in this group, who is writing or reading from this group.

The relay can associate IPs with group IDs, no?
Correct. For now it's strongly recommended to use a VPN or Orbot. Eventually White Noise will have integrated Tor or Nym client with secure identity management.
