The really scary prospect of AI is not general AI (not happening), but that it will be able to churn out addictive content. The internet is already an addictive place, imagine it with much more of the content that gets you hooked. AI is not that good yet, but it's not that far from it, either.

I actually disagree. The scary part to me is how a good majority of the population just "accepts" what it says. No fact checking. It's that old Sandra Bullock movie "The Net" 'I don't care what the computer says, that's not the truth.'

The ACTUAL really scary prospect of AI is not general AI (already happened) but the lack of acceptance to take on the task of ‘rewiring’ your world view to include it and the impending ASI.

AI is good at mixing already existing content, but unable to create anything outside its training data. Which is tiring.
