GM When you walk to the farmer at 6.30 with your son to get fresh milk. Talk for an hour about freedom, fresh grass, cows and change of society over the past few decades are you in the right spot?

sounds like: Right place, right time, right values
I visited 2 farms with my daughter yesterday, 1 for meat, 1 for milk. At meat farm; Nobody there. Called the farmer: "I should be there in 10 minutes, just hang out wherever you like for a bit." So my daughter played with the cat and pet some of the young cows for a bit. Another call: "It's gonna be a while, just take from the freezer whatver you need." 👍 Milk farm: More cats, more playing. They're actuall both dairy farms but the meat guy has a small ox meat side business where he keeps a few oxes grazing on pastures that are just enough for a single cow and that are not around milking equipment. He does not do sell milk directly to consumers and during the winter the cows get some extra corn. It's why i go to a separate farm for milk, where, even in winter, the cows still only eat grass. I too like to have some small talk to let them know i support very much what they're doing and am very grateful they want to share it with me.
The problem I encountered was the new legislation in the Netherlands, the farm where we used to get milk closed their milk draft as there are now new regulations where they have to do expensive checks and can’t just sell the milk anymore. He said he’s now just selling the milk in larger quantities to Eastern European people living in the area, directly from the tank. So he doesn’t have to deal with all the government restrictions. We simply don’t consume enough with our small family so it was end of story for us in the region I grew up in. I simply don’t want to bother him with our small quantities, it’s too much work for him. It’s sad that most milk drafts in the Netherlands are now closing down.
Mine considered this as well if business would become too bad but so far they're still going, even though it's even cheaper than most super markets. I would still go if they would bump the price by a third. Still a very reasonable price for good milk if you ask me.
