Many years ago, when I discovered I was being lied to by main stream media (as a paying subscriber) I felt extremely hurt and abused. Years later when I discovered Facebook was manipulating me, again, I felt extremely hurt and abused. Then when Google promised to "do no evil" and then.... etc.etc.etc. I think the picture is accurate, because you tell these people, "You are being abused," and they choose ignorance and return to that situation.

Totally agree. Stopping this brainwash cycle therefor starts with (grand)parents making their children aware. Recognising abuse (in any relationship), and stopping it, is a college course in itself which cannot start early enough. But in adulthood, it can only start with the will of the abuse victim.
