Indian tourists have the reputation for behaving inappropriately (being loud/ travelling in big groups blocking paths/ littering, etc sometimes) - not out of malice, but because these are considered kind of okay in India. So I think reacting harshly to the Japanese tourist behaviour is ironic -- but of course, when it comes to "religious/sacred" places, emotions rule over thoughts
