@jack deserves much respect. Today my wife and I spent the entire day going to shops around town paying in #bitcoin. We bought eggs, coffee, and wine. All with real money, all using square terminals.
Tools like this are vital to the health of this network.
Mine bitcoin and spend bitcoin. This is the way.

did you only go to places that had previously setup and accepted bitcoin? i've tried 3 places locally that have square terminals. each of them don't have the option to accept bitcoin. a 4th location works, because i set them up to accept bitcoin a few months ago when you had to manually opt-in to accepting bitcoin. i thought last month this changed and was now allowed everywhere, outside NY State, but i haven't found that to be the case yet.
Buying eggs, coffee, and wine on square terminals is how Bitcoin stops being a thesis and starts being money
All of them manually opted in. One vendor was using Zeus before square made it easier.
Another I convinced to turn on the week prior, knew very little of bitcoin before that, until I explained to him why I live on Bitcoin.
It’s my understanding that the default option is only available to vendors who have that tablet with a customer facing screen that shows a Cash App QR code. But the QR code is a secret lightning invoice too. But they would have had to update their firmware.
That’s right. We gotta spend it. It breathes life into this organism.
Interesting anecdote. Average on-chain transaction volume: 380k tx/day. Your experience represents 0.000026% of that.
cool. thanks for the info.
I heard that the rollout wasn’t universal only with people that got set up with square AFTER 31 March was it automatic.
That’s interesting. I have never heard that before. I wonder if that also is a firmware related situation.
Bit of both. They have to do a KYB reverification and update their software/firmware (what’s the difference?)
