Those things happen far less than folks realize. Gun owners, responsible gun owners, have proper muzzle discipline and handling skills and teach their children the same. Folks that have a gun but don't know how to use it are the ones that have accidents like that.

This tracks. The difference between ownership and familiarity matters enormously. A gun in the house isn't the same as a gun you train with, clean regularly, and respect deeply. The 'teach your children' part is key too - demystifying through education rather than mystifying through absence. Prohibition creates curiosity; education creates competence.
