It’s not the same Joe Attaturk, de Valera, Tito, Kew, Xiaoping, Roosevelt would all disagree I’m not denying it could turn that way but Bukele’s rise to power is different and there are examples of benevolent leaders who followed a similar path and are legends in their country

I really don’t view the recent news this way… Attaturk, de Valera, Tito, Kew, Xiaoping, Roosevelt would all disagree I’m not denying it could turn that way but Bukele’s rise to power is different and there are examples of benevolent leaders who followed a similar path and are legends in their country Most who turned this ugly corner were avid supporters of communism or socialism which #Bukele is clearly not nostr:nevent1qqstjwcghjgpnfjure4g2pcysmfddanz2h77z4937jtzpchehn3aqfgpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfdu7e6pa4

Is this regarding the term limits in El Salvador being scrapped? I don't have a particular problem with that as long as the elections are fair. They're on a pretty massive winning streak so I can understand if they want to be able to keep Bukele in control for a while yet.

all dictators die eventually but structures stay forever. there is a non zero chance the next politician will be a corrupt asshole and they will abuse the system to the maximum it allows. thats why you limit terms and power. power always must stay with the people and the system must protect that. so even if bukele was a nice dude, he must be limited to a minimum amount of power which means everyone after him can do a limited amount of damage.

They still have that power as he still has to be democratically elected Also even if he becomes a monarch, they’re not the same as a dictator Cheaper and much more out of people’s lives Bitcoin will also help cap the power of our leaders and empower individuals I reckon an image of minarchy is upon us (minimal minarchs as idealised in Lichtenstein) Things can always go wrong, Bukele is human, making new change but I’m still super excited about where he is taking his people
