It's a cult of personality thing. Even if you don't want to have a cult attached to your personality, at a certain critical mass of followers it will be demanded of you.

Aye. That's a big reason I kept deleting laser handles.
I get that. I've made it a habit to burn nyms without even being popular. Routine self-evaluation based on how you think others perceive you is bad for the soul.
