The Bill of Rights are the first 10 Amendments to the US Constitution
Ratified December 15, 1791
First Amendment: Protects freedom of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the government.
Second Amendment: Protects the right to keep and bear arms.
Third Amendment: Restricts the quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner's consent.
Fourth Amendment: Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures; requires warrants based on probable cause.
Fifth Amendment: Requires grand jury indictment for serious crimes; protects against double jeopardy and self-incrimination; guarantees due process of law; requires just compensation for taking private property for public use (eminent domain).
Sixth Amendment: Guarantees the rights to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury, to be informed of charges, to confront witnesses, and to have legal counsel.
Seventh Amendment: Guarantees the right to a jury trial in federal civil cases involving more than $20.
Eighth Amendment: Prohibits excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.
Ninth Amendment: States that the enumeration of certain rights in the Constitution does not deny or disparage other rights retained by the people.
Tenth Amendment: Reserves powers not delegated to the federal government nor prohibited to the states to the states or the people.
