Hi Gerardine Hoogland, and welcome to #nostr! 🤓 I tried to ⚡️zap you some welcome sats (bitcoin), but you haven't set up a #lightning wallet for your profile yet 🥺 Doing so allows anyone to zap you some sats when they value your contribution, want to say "hi", or any other reason! The easiest option for beginners is to use the in-built wallet in the nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q app (link below). If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, a dedicated lightning wallet is also a good idea! Some nice options include the nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv, nostr:npub1h2qfjpnxau9k7ja9qkf50043xfpfy8j5v60xsqryef64y44puwnq28w8ch and nostr:npub1hcwcj72tlyk7thtyc8nq763vwrq5p2avnyeyrrlwxrzuvdl7j3usj4h9rq apps. Once you've got it sorted, be sure to post a note including #checkmyaddy and I'll try to zap you again! If you need help, just ask 😊 https://yakihonne.com/yakihonne-mobile-app-links I can also help people check their #nostr address is working (if they have one). Nostr addresses are not mandatory, but some people like using them to add a personal touch to their profile. Once you've set it up, just post a note including #checkmyaddy and I'll check it again for you. If you like, I can give you one for free at "yourname@minestr.app". Just get in touch! 😊 Made with 💚 by nostr:npub1mlnersd9cup2n3p5xrytccgfa73p4resxe5a2ljq9rez2ancr8usmnu7x8

if you don't mind me asking, what prompted you to visit us here? always nice to see new faces nostr is small and tight, most people you will encounter are #nostronly maxis and a lot of bitcoiners, and then a little contingent of people who like to whine about how we talk a lot about bitcoin, but actually that's just primal, so beware primal's trending feed, better to find some good writers like nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a and check out who and what engages, she often posts a lot about her life story and her current place in Cairo myself, i'm australian, living in #madeira in the atlantic, #golang programmer and trying to build a nostr relay called #realy https://realy.lol and finally solve the problem of chat on nostr, which is unfortunately quite muddled due to some funny attitudes about privacy and the non-negotiable relay architecture of nostr the main thing you need to understand about #nostr is that a lot of us are programmers building stuff for nostr, and the actual primary topic of discussion that gets the most volume here is nostr itself, and discussions around apps and proposals for protocol extensions

Its just so new that the programmers building it were the first group here. Since bitcoin can be used to transfer value here, that made the connection to the bitcoin crew immediately obvious. Now they are all here. So its very heavy on that content at this moment. BUT now its spreading out past those groups to finance types, musicians, photographers, health advocates and now you : ) Hang in there for a bit. Its a bit like dropping back into the early 2000s Internet, it's all potential and possibility, but there is no company in charge, no one is censored, and you control what you see and don't. And all those programmers are accessible and sharing their challenges out in the open - they are really friendly (at their core : ) and help so may folks navigate this place with guides and other learning materials. Can't wait to see what you share!

This place needs someone that really knows the history of Rome, you'll see the bitcoin crew refer to it a lot in the context of the US or the "west" today. They are gonna love you!

There is no rush, but one of the cool things is you can send a "zap" of money to anyone that has this configured. You can send a fraction of a penny's worth of bitcoin as a "like". You can also send a hundred dollars worth or more if you want. That sets up a value for value situation where we can pay content types directly, no middle man, no permission needed. The Primal Nostr client has a wallet built in, but there are lots of options. This is techy for sure, but that's the fun ha! You've got a whole new world growing here, enjoy.

Welcome to #Nostr ! image Suggestion to find whom to follow: Follow topics using hastags, click on this hashtag: #_rockclimbing, and you will have the option to follow it if using the right mobile or web browser client. A good one to follow is #_introductions and #_askNostr (remove the space after the hastag, I added a space to avoid spamming the community) Suggestion for Nostr Clients: If on Android: nostr:nprofile1qqs24yz8xftq8kkdf7q5yzf4v7tn2ek78v0zp2y427mj3sa7f34ggjcpzamhxue69uhhv6t5daezumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnddakj703s8dt is an excellent choice, feature rich, supports privacy, tiktok like feeds, multi user, supports #Amber (more security), #TOR, private chats, excellent look and feel, it is ahead of most clients by far. nostr:nprofile1qqs9ajjs5p904ml92evlkayppdpx2n3zdrq6ejnw2wqphxrzmd62swspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuvrcvd5xzapwvdhk6qgdwaehxw309aukzcn49ekk2qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yh8x6tpd4ehgu3wvdhk6ynf30t is a good alternative, more like Telegram, including chat groups, channels and voice and video calls, all encrypted e2e. It is powerful with privacy as well, it has secret chats and it supports Amber, #TOR in the settings "Use SOCKS proxy" (just install Orbot and in the settings be sure it allows background starts you don't need to have it running as VPN). It has a wallet built in and interesting features of its own. Suggestion for Wallets: Depends on your technical level and how much time are you willing to spend understanding and setting them up: 1. The impatient with no time to waste and who doesn't care to use custodial wallets: Go for Wallet of Satoshi (https://www.walletofsatoshi.com/), add it to your profile, it doesn't have the NWC (network wallet connect) setup, but you really don't need it. When you try to zap someone, the wallet will open and the invoice will load, easy and setup free. You are set. (they don't work in USA, unless you use a VPN) You may try as well https://coinos.io nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm0d9hx7uewd9hj75a0pev , rich with features and web based, you can receive emails every time you are zapped too. Very cool wallet, the dev team rocks, they are doing the good work creating more Bitcoin awareness and helping businesses to accept it. It does support ecash and recently started to support #Bolt12, just missing #Amber support to be my favorite (it would make it optional to be non custodial) 2. The curious one with not much technical expertise but eager to learn: You have few options here to play that are interesting: 2.1. nostr:nprofile1qqstxwlea9ah3u6kjjszu6a7lrnhqkfh8eptp2z6v0e9558tlkkl2rgpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsz9mhwden5te0wfjkccte9ec8y6tdv9kzumn9wshszxnhwden5te0wfjkccte9ekkjmnfvf5hguewvdshx6p07xr4s5 (mobile app, you can buy from them your own address like yourname@minibits.cash BOLT11), the app is well polished, user friendly and the devs are hands on, responsive and active in the #Nostr community. 2.2. nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm0d9hx7uewd9hj75a0pev , they support #eCash, #Bolt11 and #Bolt12, so you can play here, just beware, you are signing with your own nsec, so for testing, make a new account and play around, that until they support Amber or a similar way to sign in, can't wait. 2.3 nostr:nprofile1qqsxn2q9vlnek6umcu5z44v42yklpwqy0prpd0kmvg7pytadgg9zvdgeldk34 (eNuts Beta, mobile app, the app is clean and with cool themes, has a message tab, for you to check your private messages, supports #LN and #Cashu, no #Bolt11 support, it is beta, don't play with more than you are willing to lose) Two good options to play and learn, all support #Cashu and #LN⚡, start learning about #Cashu, IMO a game changer for small payments. Sovereign app offers novelty features I consider a must have, wait until you learn about CLANs and the way sovereign does the recoveries, mind blowing... 3. The tech savvy 3.1 GetAlby running AlbyHub (a bit pricey unless you do all yourself, not my cup of tea, but people in the community loves them) 3.2 npub.cash - get your npub followed by @npub.cash and use it as your wallet address to receive anonymous private #LN payments and #cashu payments. You can pay in the wallet web site for a custom address as well (cool) 3.3 nuts.cash - same as above, just not an option to buy an address, meaning no #Bolt11 support Check my nostr site: https://rod.npub.pro You can get your own, give it a try, start writing! Last but not least: https://video.nostr.build/c15a8f80b0ee38024f680e5dc080c07163798f5dcf622d5dc0429a3bd9eb0ffb.mp4 If you are on iOS: ...Why?... never mind... image Enjoy Nostr!
