If anyone is searching for an awesome board game to play with friends and family, I couldn't recommend Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right enough. At first glance, it might seem complicated, but everyone manages their own faction, each with its own unique playstyle and strategy. Despite these differences, all factions seamlessly interact with one another on the same board. Layered on top of that is a social component with informal alliances and truces. Everyone negotiates their way through the game to ensure no one else wins too quickly, all while pursuing the ultimate goal of winning themselves. The tension is heightened by the fact that it pays to pay attention to another faction's playstyle to understand where they are in their strategy. This is made possible by the fact that other than your hand, everyone's setup is public information. Trying multiple different factions and learning how they work will give you an edge. Combine all that with expansion packs featuring new factions, maps, and cards, and you have near-endless scenarios to play. Again, I cannot recommend this game enough! image
