ISP routers should only have access to your untrusted DMZ LAN for this reason. You can simply place your own router behinds the isp router to create this model easily.
May not apply to everyone’s security needs but perhaps for the tinfoil hatters cypherpunks and @Edward Snowden

A router behind the isp router will only complicate things imo, it will increase your eletricity bill too.
My security strategy is always: less devices.
