I don’t believe I have ever seen a VW Thing in person until today! Driving through a small #ozarks town.

The Volkswagen Thing, officially known as the Type 181, is a unique vehicle with roots in World War II military design, developed as a stopgap solution for the West German Army before the planned "Europa Jeep" project was abandoned. It was introduced to the civilian market in 1968 and became a symbol of rugged, versatile utility, with different names across regions including the Trekker in the UK, Safari in Mexico and South America, and Kurierwagen in Germany. Although its U.S. market debut in 1973 was short-lived due to safety regulations, the Thing's legacy endures as a cult classic, with production continuing until 1983 and a total of approximately 90,000 units built worldwide.
