Btw check out the cashu channel idea for tens of thousands of sub payments per token set. Might be interesting for your use case where the user always pays the same entity (relay).

Only two interactions with the mint are required (opening and closing the channel). The mint doesn't know that the channel exists. It doesn't require a protocol update.
