Crazy. Already with 50€ you are like "bothering" them in most EU country.
At least in Switzerland we ca still use our 200Fr (=215€ today) note officially everywhere.
I paid my bread with a 50Fr note this morning, it was very welcomed, much more than credit card with high fees.
The 1000Fr note is mostly refused, especially if you try to pay less than 200 CHF with it but for a large enough purchase it should be accepted.
