That may be fair but the whole thing is engineered to be cult by the unsolicited primal signup instafollows that include all of the right-think influencers. I have learned the lesson of going where you’re wanted, and the people who functionally run the show around here clearly don’t want me around. A pervasive culture of cultishness is high bar to overcome.

If the app is a problem, there are options. Nostr is free and open source so there are different approaches. You may try Gossip Nostr client - its a desktop application that you install, meaning its fast, its secure (all your private keys stay on your hard drive) and you set up everything yourself - choosing relays, who to follow, organizing the people in groups and so on. It may take a bit to get used with all freatures but its awesome. https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip/releases

you know i often agree with you, but for me nostr is more like bitcoin. especially in the bitcoin space there are so many people with bad intentions and yet there are also incredibly great and helpful people. in germany we say "greed eats brains" and i think many people are reluctant to give away their cake. for me nostr remains like bitcoin hope for a better world

I totally understand where you come from. I used to be very active on Nostr (with my older identity), even attempting some community building with weekly activities. I did not feel welcomed that often… then I dared to criticize a couple of projects and that was it. I’m always concerned when group think becomes stronger than logic. All the symptoms of a cult were present. I still pop in with this account every now and then because I am curious about the development of the technology, rather than for keeping in touch with the community.
