Each one commits not to work with commercial AI companies and not to publish math written by AI, from papers to referee reports and lecture notes. 654 of them went further and joined an "AI-free caucus": no AI models for finding proofs, exploring examples or posing research questions. AHM has sharply criticized OpenAI's October 6 release of over 700 AI-generated math manuscripts at once, calling it "not a demonstration of scholarship, but a demonstration of power." 1,008 is still a small share of the world's mathematicians.
