The Nazis also tore down many old world buildings. We didn’t lose everything to allied bombing raids on civilians. Look at this atrocity in comparision. (Goes without saying that all surrounding buildings no longer exist today.) Look at the inside of this station. Is there any country left where something like this is still being built today?

The disconnect between what we see in old architecture and what we are told were the capabilities of the time is lost on most. It always seems a convenient side-effect of wars that the old architecture is destroyed.
I see the same, but also think it may be explained by radically different minsets and time preferences.

Apparently this won a design competition before the Nazi's took power. It would appear the people of Dusseldorf had terrible taste (though it's possible this was the best of many terrible options) Old euro styles are still being built in China in a really odd manner
