Yes, potentially, but there are lots of extra salmon in the river. Alaska Fish & Game counts every fish that gets 19 miles up the river with a sonar. All commerical fishing and most sport fishing takes place downstream from there. They manage the commercial, sport fishing and personal use harvest based on those counts to ensure enough fish spawn to sustain the population. If the numbers are low they reduce bag limits and fishing hours and vice versa. Their escapement goal is 750,000 - 1.3 million fish. Last year, the escapment was 4.2 million fish that's after 4+ million fish were harvested.
