Richard Matthew Stallman
Born on March 16, 1953, is an American computer programmer and free software advocate. He is best known for founding the Free Software Foundation in 1985 and launching the GNU Project in 1983, aimed at developing a Unix-like operating system composed entirely of free software. Stallman has been a key figure in the free software movement, advocating for software that ensures users have the freedom to use, study, distribute, and modify it. He developed several widely used software tools, including GNU Emacs and the GNU Compiler Collection, and wrote the GNU General Public License, a widely adopted free software license.
