📚 Yesterday I was in a bookstore. Naturally, I stopped at the business section, and right next to me a boy, maybe 14 years old, started browsing through the books as well.
A minute later his family arrived. His mother immediately scolded him loudly: “You haven’t even finished the last books, what makes you think you can choose another one? And why would you even be interested in business books?”
The boy tried to stand his ground, and in the end it looked like they bought the book. But I kept thinking: how can this still happen today?
Yes, books are expensive — 20–25 USD (5–6,000 HUF) is a lot for a family. But if a young person picks up a book — please, support them! If the price feels high, there are libraries, or even digital services where for the cost of a monthly Netflix subscription you can access an entire library.
And yes, I know even that amount can feel like a burden. But knowledge, skills, and perspective are the only real chance to break out of limitations. Without them, it’s almost impossible.
🙏 So if your child reaches for a book, please encourage them. That’s the true investment in the future.
