By leaning into WoT, NIP consensus will not be needed … but also … lack of consensus might just break Nostr.

I don't think it breaks nostr. Each community can implement the elements of nostr that mean the most to them. They just won't be enjoying the benefits the wider network will provide them by foregoing the standard. I think it will also likely mean they'll need to provide their own infrastructure as I imagine free relays will begin to tighten around their supported kinds but for each community that might end up helping them remain private in a way.
Exactly this. ☝🏼 And also … might break Nostr.
not ''break" nostr, but "break it up" into islands of consensus. i consider that a win.
Ah … but interoperability and usability … may be stable islands ?
the stable islands will be the ones that prove themselves to be suffciently interoperable and usable such that their inhabitants can survive and thrive in their ocean.
if a set of islands produce value or utility, they will persist and evolve together.
Sounds like a long runway …
