Well, again this is probably communication issue. I never in my life thought it was a good idea for clients to delegate responsibility for the core functions of Nostr to a relay. Anything that makes one think they can make an app that connects to a single "smart relay" is already a bad idea. Maybe it didn't matter what I wrote though, we ended up getting everything bad on all sides of the spectrum, and some of the good too. I just wanted to clarify a little bit here, selfishly.

Relays being 'dumb' made them easy to build, and so Nostr impossible to capture. It's also why we have the infrastructure we do today. Your original definition ensured Nostr didn't end up looking like Bluesky.
