Nostr protects your identity by default when you control your keys. That part is solved automatically. But it's up to you to protect your content by using relays and media servers you control or that you pay to protect your content. Free services don't have any responsibility to keep your stuff. GM.

I heard something about clients blocking relays... Is that out of context? I know it had something to do with spam, was the relay malicious?

Maybe.. there are malicious relays and there are also relays trying to make money by selling the users data.
