I appreciate all people in my circles, friends, family, etc. But honestly it's just so exhausting to keep trying to get them to switch to better #FOSS options, even over years, and even with them admitting they should switch to a FOSS alternative, like linux. The biggest drag historically has been getting them to adopt better communication apps. Getting people off Facebook/Whatsapp Google Microsoft options was dreadfully annoying. Many did switch to an option like Signal but only because they want to stay in contact but with others, many continue to use proprietary closed source stuff like whatsapp I insist to them #linux is way better than Windows, for personal use, but even for work purposes, and many do recognize it, but the friction to get them to actually switch is another story. the struggle continues 🫡

directly with me, they may use a good option that works for my practices and ideology, but let's say I don't want my phone number to be swept up in the contact sweep dragnet meta forces on all its users on whatsapp. it's impossible to force people in my circles to not have my phone number shared because they will use whatsapp with people other than me. i like your approach and I am the same way, but i realized sometimes it's hard to get people to recognize the dangers of giving up one's data.
