Real question. Why don't #NOSTR clients use proof of work to mitigate #spam in the network?
I know it would drain mobile batteries more, but it wouldn't have to be a huge amount of work. Just like 1 second worth.
Linux computers already do something like like when you type in your password to login. The password check is fast enough to not bother the user, but slow enough that trying to brute force a password becomes much more difficult.
In the same way, if users needed to wait 1 second to post a new note, no problem.
But if spammers needed to do the same constantly, maybe this would start to impose an actual cost (electricity and processing power) on spammers?
