It's really rewarding to be a contributor to OpenStreetMap and nostr:npub1864jglrrhv6alguwql9pqtmd5296nww5dpcewapmmcazk8vq4mks0tt2tq
I got set up in the past week with Gitea and have been helping chip away at the massive (and ever-growing) list of Square merchants accepting bitcoin. I've been adding locations for almost a year now taking care of nostr:npub1f75q50fcdudzzjczjg0u0we2krq4e48f4zc07nuvgaeljrnpkvgsr7gh94 and doing some other edits here and there, but to be an active maintainer is really fun.
It's also been fun to learn how to use Gitea (I assume Github is essentially the same)! I like that it displays my public activity, makes me feel like a dev 😅

I don't think there are square merchants accepting Bitcoin yet, only lightning right? This makes it harder to search for actual Bitcoin merchants. Now that retailers are doing this (widespread lightning adoption without Bitcoin), everyone calling lightning "Bitcoin" is really fragmenting internet tools and helping keep the general public confused.
This is a step in the wrong direction because before lightning, we already had maps for merchants that accepted Bitcoin, but none for merchants that actually hold and use Bitcoin instead of just "accepting" it through a dollar converter app.
Now we have maps for merchants that lie about accepting Bitcoin, but I don't know one for merchants that actually accept Bitcoin, and I still never found one for merchants that actually hold and use Bitcoin.
Monero is kinda immune to this movement in the wrong direction, but I haven't seen a map in the right direction for Monero either, and there seems to be a lot of psychological pressure against Monero being accepted by merchants too soon.
Doggie coin is also kinda immune to getting worse, but also hasn't gotten better, and has the mass wave of late adopters who call it "doj coin" to help with keeping the general public confused about it
But Lightning is bitcoin. Are you saying you want to see a map of merchants that only accept bitcoin on-chain?
Would be nice to be able to filter at 3 levels: ones that accept lightning, ones that accept bitcoin on-chain, and ones that are verified to handle the on-chain deposits themselves and hodl
that'd be interesting! I don't think it'd be too hard to implement, knowing how the tagging works.
