Pragmatically, maybe not everybody around you sucks, and maybe if you use BirdStar you'll run into some of them and find out.

It's not about my local ecosystem. I can make friends and share interests where I am located.
The problem is there are people abroad who share those interests even more, and connecting with them requires a shared connection and space for doing so.
It is obviously not any better for everyone to move to one location. Authentic conversation isn't derived by voting with your feet. We do that digitally even, when we switch platforms or clients. My desire to chat with my friend in Canada has no impact on where I choose to live. Likewise, in my example about the video game, I have two friends who play it with me. They aren't going to uproot their lives to enjoy a week-long co-op experience. Video games end and relationships evolve over time.
I like birds but it doesn't drive my social media experience by any measure. I don't even care to browse birds. It's like a passive interest at best.
