Reread what you wrote. You think Russia is being generous, for _allowing_ Ukraine to trade with the EU. Russians have to support Putin. They're in a war and it's not like there's an effective opposition for them to support, instead. Russians have no Plan B, and they have learned to accept that. Also, they like territorial conquest and he keeps telling them that the Empire will live again. So long as the Empire expands, at no direct cost to the ethnic Russians, they will like him.
