When 2 person enter a voluntarily exchange they do so because they both benefit. Both of them get rid of someone they value less than what they are getting. They both profit. This thing I'm the middle is value being created from the exchange. When value is created from human cooperation, progress is made.

I'm putting a lot of rethinking in this and I think I should add that when I say progress I do not put moral weight on it. Meaning I do kot say it is good or bad. I think it is possible, depending on your own moral values, that sometimes progress through profit might be bad and sometimes good. For exemple, you might not see a man making profit from drug sales as good progress.
