We might be better off as humanity when toning down technology and NOT onboard children in (anti-)social media, but stimulate interaction in the physical world. I like nostr and its possibilities, but te me it is only meaningful when my physical life improves by it.
I absolutely agree. Physical interaction is essential for human relationships. But let's be real: digital interactions are here to stay, and we can't ignore that fact. I believe the best place for children to interact is a less contaminated space like Nostr, rather than the hateful, conductive algorithms that power the centralised anti-social media platforms.
I think we should not allow them to use these media until they're older. Just like other addictives like gambling, alcohol etc, I am not sure nostr lacks the addiction characteristics of other networks. Might be I am wrong on that
Experience has shown that prohibitions are ineffective. Kids will always find ways to circumvent them. It is therefore preferable to invest in education rather than attempting to enforce restrictions, IMHO.
Agree, kids always find ways, but denormalizing "unwanted" behavior (again gambling, alcohol, sustainability) can help awareness, if you will, with parents which they bring over to their children. It is not a holy grail, that does not exist, but it contributes, like education to what, as a society, we find acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
No strategy yet. But I actually loved that I grew up without a smartphone and any sort of social media 😅 however as time changes we have to think about healthier ways and options!
