The Didache (an apostolic document) says we should fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. I just came across a sermon from Leo the Great saying the same thing. Friday abstinence is such a meager substitute! When, and why, did this apostolic custom fall out of practice?

I actually do this, but as fat as I could investigate in historical documents, fasting means not eating until the evening. I also don't use alcohol on Wednesday and Friday. Even better is if you also only eat bread on those days, but I have to admit I am not that advanced yet. The Didache also instructs us how to run a decentralized church. Which is why the document was hidden and not recovery until 1890 in the Roman church ...
