So guys, as I said earlier I just set up a lightning node and Alby Hub. But I'm still a complete newbie. And I have questions. 1 - So I have a channel on Alby Hub. And from what I can see, it's capacity is fixed at 1M sats. Am I correct or have I missed something? 2 - And what about the lightning node itself? If I send sats there, can I use them as easily? Is there any point in doing so? Or maybe it's more useful as storage? 3 - In that case, are there best practices as to how and for which usecase choosing the node itself or the Alby Hub channel to send or receive payments? #asknostr #Bitcoin

1. channels normally have fixed amounts. the default in Alby Hub is to get a channel with 1m receiving capacity from a LSP. This is typically enough for most users to always be able to send and receive. 2. yeah, sure. the wallet is there to send and receive. Zap hard here on nostr for example πŸ˜‰ 3. not sure if I understand the question. "channels" are there to send/receive. so you need one and all payments go through that.

Ok so... After Reading 3 I don't understand 2 πŸ˜… I'm on Umbrel and I have 2 different apps : lightning node and Alby hub. I opened a channel on Alby Hub and I have a wallet there with some says. But I also have a wallet on the node with nothing on it. I have not opened a channel on this app. What happens if I send funds there? And is there any point in doing it?

ah, sorry. missed that detail so on Umbrel if you use LND, then Alby Hub just uses your LND node. It is basically a easy UI for your LND node. So you opened a channel in Alby Hub (the UI), but your LND is the node that has this channel. Alby Hub gives your LND node the powers to for example connect to the Alby lightning address, the extension, the mobile app, use zapping on nostr. etc.

1) you must've set up that channel. Did you ask for a channel and have to pay a lightning invoice for the channel? Or did you open it yourself to someone? Best way to answer this question: do you have receiving capacity? Or spending capacity? 2) the sats you send to the node are there for you to open channels. Considering Alby hub needs to be online at all times, I recommend NOT using it for long term storage, but that's up to you. I think I have 9000 sats or something on mine because it's what was left over after opening a channel. 3) the node itself is an on-chain address and can't be used for lightning payments. You use the channels that are open to send/receive lightning payments. There's easier wallets out there to manage the on-chain payments than having to go back to your lightning node.
