Light can travel in a black hole, it just has no path that leads outside of the event horizon.

Agree .. it travels in circles .. but we don't know for sure if there is dense matter with in to hinder the progression of light .. must be high intensity gamma and X rays given the kind of fusion going on inside ..
It's way past what we call fusion at that point. Neutron stars are less dense than black holes and don't do fusion (because it's already happened, they're basically one giant atomic nucleus already).
Maybe he was referring to the singularity, not event horizont.
Definition of "black hole" is a bit confusing.
