Ok, so I'm not the only one thinking about that last part. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ The Russians are mining like idiots, not even they know where and a lot of Russians die because of their own mines when they go to attack. The Ukrainians are more into the Western way, marking the positions on maps.

In fairness, Ukraine is air dropping a lot of mines too. There's lots of land where the only sure thing to do is to methodically clear it. That requires enormous amounts of labor. It's not actually very difficult โ€“ there's ways to do it very safely. But it takes a hell of a lot of time. For farm fields, it's relatively easy to get to a level of clearance with machinery where it's safe enough to drive farm equipment over it (especially remotely). But you'd never want to use that land for, e.g., a playground, without hand demining. At the other end of the spectrum is stuff like the beaches of Odesa. They were heavily mined โ€“ I have photos I took myself of the warning signs in 2022. And since then they've been carefully cleared to the level where they're fully open to tourists again (though every section of open beach has an anti-sea-mine barrier).
