How self-custody is done for the Nerds, no f.cking hardware wallet needed:
- Run your own Bitcoin node behind Tor (start9OS is great), with electrs
- Create a TailsOS USB stick with an encrypted personal drive (this option is offered upon starting Tails)
- Boot Tails from USB stick, start Electrum Wallet (installed by default)
- Create a dummy wallet, configure the Wallet to connect to your tor electrs onion address.
- Create another wallet, memorize the 12 words (jot it down on paper if you can't memorize)
- Jot down the xpub
- Create a watch only wallet somewhere else using the xpub (on your daily desktop win11 or Ubuntu, Mint ...)
- Only boot and use your Tails OS USB stick when you want to SEND Btc, i.e SIGN a transaction.
- Use your watch only wallet "on your win11 PC or Ubuntu or Mobile Wallet" to create new btc addresses to RECEIVE BTC and to check your balance.
This is only for the hacker and the Commodore 64 Nerd. If you don't know what you are doing, get a f.cking hardware wallet!
